Trust is the whole point of a reference site, so we want to be completely transparent about how The Faunalist makes money. This page explains it in plain English, in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s guidelines on endorsements (16 CFR Part 255).
Amazon Associates Program
The Faunalist is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated websites. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
In practice, this means that some of the product links in our guides (for example, links to bird feeders, seed, binoculars, or nest boxes) are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission from the retailer. This never changes the price you pay. The commission comes out of the retailer’s side, not yours.
Display Advertising
The Faunalist displays third-party advertisements, and may work with an advertising management partner to do so. Advertisers do not see your personal information from us, and they have no influence over what we write. Revenue from ads is what keeps every guide on this site free to read, with no paywall and no required sign-up. You can read more about how advertising cookies work, and how to opt out of personalized ads, in our Privacy Policy.
How We Choose What to Recommend
Our editorial process works one way: we research the topic first, form our conclusions, and only then add links to products that fit those conclusions. We recommend products based on published specifications, our own experience as backyard birders, and the guidance of authorities like the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. No advertiser or retailer can pay for a recommendation, a higher ranking in a list, or a favorable review. If a product is not worth your money, an affiliate commission will not change our mind about saying so.
Prices and Availability
Product prices and availability shown or linked from this site are accurate as of the date an article was published or last updated, and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply to your purchase of that product.
