Lena Marsh covers fish for The Faunalist, on both sides of the glass. One half is aquarium and pond keeping, mostly bettas, goldfish and koi, where the recurring question is what a fish can safely be fed and what the tank actually needs to stay stable. The other half is the wild freshwater species people meet on North American lakes and rivers, from sunfish and crappie to trout, pike and catfish. Her sources are FishBase for taxonomy and biology, state fish and wildlife agencies for ranges, records and regulations, and university extension aquaculture programs for nutrition and water quality. Species identification claims are checked against at least two of those before publishing. Lena Marsh is a pen name used by a member of the Faunalist editorial team. She is not an ichthyologist or a veterinarian, and health problems in a tank point to an aquatic vet.
